갑장사는 상주시 지천동 산5번지에 자리잡은 조계종 사찰로 상주 四長寺의 하나이다, 이 사찰은 명승지로 알려진 갑장산 정상에 자리하여 항상 연악(淵嶽)의 사계절을 독점하고 있다 사찰의 開基는 1373년(공민왕 22) 나옹화상이 창건하였으며 경내에 문화재자료 125호인 갑장사 3층석탑을 비롯하여 주위에 상사바위, 구룡연, 문필봉, 백길바위 등의 전설에 얽힌 명승들이 있다
