신라 애장왕때 건립된 사찰로서, 왕자가 눙이 나빠 앞을 볼수 없어 꿈에 한 스님이 이곳의 약수물로 눈을 씻어면 낫는다하여 약수물로 씻었더니 금방 나았다하여 왕이 이 은혜를 감복해 지은 사찰임
